Pain Management Program
What many people do not realize is where pain is processed. They believe that if they stub their toe the pain is in their toe, or if they strain their lower back the pain is in the muscles and tendons of the lower back. However, all pain, regardless of where it is in the body or the type of pain it is, originates in the brain. The brain is like a mini administrator that tells the injured area of the body what type of pain sensation to feel, how severe the pain will be, and how long it will last.
Because pain is a condition of the brain, in order to change pain, particularly chronic pain, we need to change how your brain processes information about pain.
Who is a pain management program for?
A pain management program may benefit you if you are dealing with chronic pain from an old injury (such as lower back pain or shoulder pain), have chronic pain from an illness or disease (such as MS or fibromyalgia), or have acute pain from a recent injury or surgery. It is a desirable choice for people who want an alternative or complementary addition to pharmaceuticals.

The pain program starts with an extensive evaluation of all things pain-related to determine how to proceed. Participants complete a series of questionnaires which are reviewed by their pain therapist. Guidance is then provided which is specific to the individual and their personal needs. There are at least four in-office appointments that focus on hypnosis/hypnotherapy, but will include the addition of therapies and activities that use the tools and equipment in our office.
